A kilt is a simple piece of garment that the men and especially the Scottish men have been wearing since the end of the 16th century. In the early years this dress was made with a special material called tartan, but with passage of time everything changed and so did the kilt. The attire that was once made with Tartan is now prepared in a variety of materials to cater the ever growing needs of the wearers.
People living in warmer areas like wearing the modern kilts that are made with soft and light materials, while the people living in areas with harsh winters like the modern leather kilts that keep them safe from the chill of the winters and give them a trendy look too. A few years back the leather kilts had strapped closures and flat panels in the front part of the kilt, they had pockets along the sides. Some of the recently made leather kilts have cargo pockets and are embellished with studs and chains.
According to the latest fashion apparel the designers have now developed a bit shorter leather kilts for men that are worn over a jean or a trouser.
Special Care For Leather Kilts
- Unlike other materials the leather kilts need some extra care to stay in perfect shape for a long time.
- If you find a spot on your kilt do not wash it as the leather loses its natural oils with each wash, try to spot clean the kilt with the special ingredients made for leather cleaning.
- Never hang the kilts in closet without a cloth bag over it as the leather can easily breathe through the cloth bag, never use plastic bags to cover leather.
